Yes, there is something glitchy in the Kroger system. It will take off a higher-value coupon, count the item for the mega sale, but not take off the mega price. Had it happen to me last week while doing another deal.
Check your receipt. When I did this the other day the $1 for the mega event savings did not come off the package that the $5 was applied to. Customer service gave me my dollar back.
