New to CVS? Get Started Here!
Things You Need to Know…..
CVS can be an EXCELLENT store to score some really great deals…you just gotta play by the rules and every store has their own. My goal is to help guide you through the maize. I do weekly CVS matchups on my blog to help you maximize your savings. I give you money saving scenarios using the coupons available and all the tools below. Hopefully this information will get you started off on the right track! New CVS Ad.
Your first step is to get an Extracare Card

Visit your local CVS/pharmacy and get a FREE ExtraCare card at the store. Or you can sign up for an ExtraCare card when you create an online account. If you already have an account, sign in and go to the ExtraCare page, and follow the instructions to Get a Card now. Limit is one card per household. This is your passport to savings. Make sure your cashier always scans your card each time you make a purchase to ensure you receive your bucks!
Now that you have an ExtraCare Card and before you do any shopping always go to the coupon center kiosk (also a price scanner) and scan your card. Coupons will print out for you to use that day or anytime before the expiration date. Some CRT (Cash Register Tape) coupons everyone will receive while other CRT’s are customer specific. This way even if you aren’t able to print your coupons/rewards from home you can do it right in the store!
Now you’re ready to start earning Extra Care Bucks (ECB)
Extra Bucks are like free “CVS money” that customers can use to purchase almost any non-prescription item at CVS/pharmacy store or online. Extra Bucks are like CVS money in that you can use as many as you have in a single transaction in addition to any manufacturer or store coupons. You are not reimbursed the balance if you do not use the entire reward. However, they can be entered as less than their face value, for example if your total (before tax) comes to $1.97 and you have an ECB for $1.99 that you would like to use, and you don’t mind losing 2 cents of its value, the cashier will adjust the value to the balance due before tax.
Earn 2% back with every purchase in-store and online at CVS/pharmacy.
Earn 1 Extra Buck for every 2 prescriptions purchased in-store and online at CVS/pharmacy.
Every 3 months your Extra Bucks will print on your store register receipt, or visit CVS/pharmacy online to print your Extra Bucks.
Additional special offers print on your store receipt frequently throughout the year.
Receive special savings exclusively at CVS/pharmacy when you sign up for email offers.
Turn everyday purchases into college savings with Upromise.
Use SavingStar, a paperless way of saving with eCoupons that link to your existing grocery and drug store loyalty cards. Click here for additional information.
The more you use your ExtraCare card, the more rewards you will receive.
CVS has launched a new extracare beauty club with several benefits to you:
-
-
- 10% off beauty shopping pass after enrollment
- $5 ExtraBucks rewards for every $50 (before coupons) spent on qualifying beauty products
- $3 ExtraBucks rewards on your birthday
-
Enroll here.
Your cashier scans the extracare beauty club tag they keep at the register so your purchases are counted towards this reward. Just make sure they do!
Green Bag Tag
CVS is offering another way to earn extra care bucks! It’s called the green bag tag and it retails for 99 cents and are usually located at the register. It includes a leaf shaped scanable card that attaches to your favorite reusable bag. Each time you visit CVS and bring your reusable bag, they will scan your Green Bag Tag. The 4th time they scan your tag, you will earn a $1 Extra Care Buck that will print on your receipt. Just remember to scan it each time because chances are the cashier is not going to remind you!
Here is the technical stuff:
To earn Extra bucks for a transaction in store, your Extra care card, green bag tag, and reusable bag must be presented w/ purchase at checkout. You have to have at least one item scanned before your green bag tag otherwise it will not take it. (I don’t know why it just is!) Limit of one green tag use/scan per day per household. Every 4th purchase your ECB will print at the bottom of your cash register receipt as a $1 coupon good for your next purchase. Extra bucks can be used until the expiration date shown on the coupon.
Using Coupons
I always recommend becoming familiar with a store’s policies, programs, rebates, promotions, etc. CVS has released a very clear CVS Coupon Policy addressing many coupon issues, including the use of internet coupons, store coupons, and BOGO (buy one get one) coupons. Print it and take it along with you in case you ever have a problem with a cashier or a manager.
Here are key points of the policy:
-
-
- CVS/pharmacy accepts one third-party manufacturer coupon and applicable CVS/pharmacy coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer
- CVS/pharmacy accepts valid internet/print at home coupons containing a barcode.
- In the event that any item’s price is less than the value of the coupon, CVS/pharmacy will accept the coupon only to the price of the item. CVS/pharmacy does not provide cash back in exchange for any coupons.
- The coupon amount will be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied. (For example, a $5.00 coupon for a $4.99 item will result in a $4.99 coupon value).
-
Present your items in the correct order:
-
-
- ExtraCare card
- Scan merchandise
- Scan Green Bag Tag
- CVS total purchase coupons from email or kiosk (% off or a specific $ amount off, free offer emails, or $ off specific item cvs emailed coupon)
- CVS store coupons
- Manufacturer coupons
- Extra Bucks
- CVS Gift Card (always use this last otherwise you will not be able to use your ECB’s) or other form of payment
-
For questions or comments on anything CVS you can always contact CVS customer service.
Now that you have the basics to CVS shopping check out my CVS Deals to get your savings started!

Rite Aid can be a GREAT store to score some really awesome deals…you just gotta play by the rules. My goal is to help guide you through the maize. I do weekly Rite Aid Weekly Ad matchups on my blog to help you maximize your savings. I give you money saving scenarios using the coupons available and all the tools below. Hopefully this information will get you started off on the right track!
Rite Aid Coupon Policy
I always recommend becoming familiar with a store’s policies, programs, rebates, promotions, etc. Rite Aid has released a very clear Rite Aid Coupon Policy addressing many coupon issues, including the use of internet coupons, store coupons, and BOGO (buy one get one) coupons. Print it and take it along with you in case you ever have a problem with a cashier or a manager.
So you are armed with the rules, now what?
Wellness+ Rewards Program
If you want to get the deals and benefit from the rewards you must sign up for the Wellness+ Rewards Program. It is really simple and totally FREE. Once you sign up online or in your local store you will be able to print a temporary card right away and start shopping right away! A permanent card will be mailed to you. If you forget your card you can always just give them your phone number when checking out.
After you sign up, you’ll be able to print a $5 off $25 purchase Q, plus 50 bonus Q’s by email. They also release extra Q’s each week. Make sure you swipe your card or give them your phone number each time you shop. Your Wellness+ coupons are store coupons that can be stacked with a manufacturer coupon for even more savings. Typically they are not brand specific. Limits vary and are not advertised.
Here’s how you earn:
Earn 1 point for every dollar you spend on nonprescription purchases
Earn 25 points for every prescription you purchase
Here are the rewards you’ll get:
For every 125 points (up to 375) – one-time, 10% off shopping pass
500 points – 10% off all non-prescription points purchases everyday
500 points – free health screenings
1000 points – 20% off all non-prescription points purchases everyday
Here are some everyday benefits you’ll enjoy:
Members-only sale pricing throughout the sore
10% of Rite-Aid brand products everyday
24/7 exclusive access to a pharmacist when you call 1-800-Riteaid
+Up Rewards
Look for +Up Reward items (pronounced “plus up”) throughout the circular. Use your Wellness+ card when purchasing these items each week and you’ll receive valuable coupons printed at the bottom of your receipt to use on your next purchase for mostly everything in the store! The first kind of reward is earned by purchasing specific qualifying items, such as purchase two secret deodorants for $3 each, receive $2 +Up reward. You can use these coupons to bring down your total OOP after coupons. The other kind of +up rewards that print on your receipt are just generic dollar off coupons, such as $1 off $10 or more shaving accessory purchase, in which case you would have to purchase $10 of shaving accessories to use the coupon.
Oldies but goodies…..
Single Check Rebate
There is another money saving program Rite Aid offers! SCR stands for Single Check Rebate, Rite Aid’s monthly rewards/rebate program. Just register here and you can immediately start participating. Each month Rite Aid publishes a booklet that highlights the monthly deals.
Throughout the month as you make purchases, enter your receipt information on the website,
or keep an envelope for mail submissions. At the end of the month, request your rebate by clicking the “request rebate” button. DO NOT request the rebate if you are planning to make any more rebate purchases that month, as you are only allowed one submission per month. You can either cash these checks or use them to pay for your next purchase at Rite Aid.
Check the limitations for the items you are expecting rebates on. Most of the SCR rebates are limited to one item per household. Also, you’ll want to take note of the rebate dates. Many of the rebates are valid for just a week and not the entire month. Also sometimes an SCR cycle straddles two months.
If you have a coupon for an item that is free after rebate (FAR) then definitely use it. You will get the full purchase price back. If you use a coupon for that item, you’ve just made a profit!
Video Values
Want to save more? Sign up for a new Video Values account and earn valuable coupons you won’t find anywhere else. Just view 1-2 minute videos advertising different products and earn coupons for the products you have just viewed. These are Rite Aid coupons and can be combined with In-ad coupons and/or manufacturer coupons. Once you’ve hit 20 credits, you can print a “bonus coupon” for $4 off a $20 purchase. Video value coupons are Rite Aid store coupons and can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. These are limit one each per customer.
Total Purchase Coupons
Many times Rite Aid will offer $$ off total purchase coupons such as $5 off $20, $5 off $25, or even $3 off $15 purchase. You must reach the total purchase amount in order to redeem these coupons. Rite Aid total purchase coupons are awesome to have because they are applied BEFORE store and manufacturer coupons and can significantly lower your OOP (out of pocket) expense. These are limit one each per customer.

NEW TO WALGREENS SHOPPING? START HERE
Things You Need to Know…..
Walgreens can be difficult to get the hang of at first, but once you understand the “rules” you can really get come awesome deals there. I made my fair share of mistakes in the beginning, but I have to say it’s definitely my FAVORITE store! There are some things you should familiarize yourself with before you enter a Walgreens. I do weekly Walgreens deal matchups to help you maximize your savings. I give you money saving scenarios using the coupons available and all the tools below. Hopefully this information will get you started off on the right track!
Walgreens Coupon Policy
I always recommend becoming familiar with a store’s policies, programs, rebates, promotions, etc. Walgreens has released a very clear Walgreens Corporate Coupon Policy addressing many coupon issues, including the use of internet coupons, store coupons, and BOGO (buy one get one) coupons. Print it and take it along with you in case you ever have a problem with a cashier or a manager.
What are Register Rewards?
Register Rewards (RR) are Walgreens specific coupons that print from the Catalina machine (white box next to register) after you make a qualifying purchase and can only be used at Walgreens. Register Rewards are actually coupons given by the manufacturers of the qualifying products. Most RRs are “On Your Next Order” (OYNO) which can be used like a coupon on your next order. (Sometimes you may receive a Catalina for $ off a particular item or an advertisement for an RR deal.)
Earning Register Rewards
Register Rewards will only print for in-stock eligible product (no substitutions) during the promotional period. There is a limit of one Register Reward (RR) printed per offer per customer per transaction.
If you complete more than one register rewards deal in one transaction, one reward for each different RR deal should print, but you will not receive more than one RR for the same deal. You may have to split your order to receive multiple rewards, if not limited by your store.
If you purchased the right items and didn’t get RR, you can return the items on the spot or call the Catalina Company @ 888-322-3814. Have your receipt in front of you, they need some info from it, and they’ll be able to see if the machine was working and if you bought the right products. It does tend to take a few minutes for the call, and then you have to wait to get the RR, which takes 6 – 8 weeks.
Redeeming Register Rewards
Generally, you can use your RR like cash on your next purchase, but of course there are exceptions: Prescriptions, Tobacco products, Alcoholic beverages, Dairy products, Lottery tickets, Money orders/transfers, Transportation passes, Special event/entertainment tickets or passes, Postage stamps, Gift cards/phone cards/prepaid/Green Dot cards, Prescription Savings Club memberships, Health care services, including immunizations, and any items prohibited by law.
The number of manufacturer coupons, including Register Rewards manufacturer coupons, may not exceed the number of items in the transaction. The total value of the coupons may not exceed the value of the transaction. Sales tax must be paid, if required by state law. This is called coupon to item ratio.
As long as you are buying as many items as you have RR & manufacturer coupons, you should be able to use more than one RR without exceeding the total. Store coupons do not affect how many manufacturer and RR’s you can use. If you don’t have enough items, grab something for a quarter or less and use your RR for that item. The amount doesn’t matter.
You cannot “roll” RR’s into the same deal 99% of the time. For example, if you use an RR from Kellogg’s to purchase more Kellogg’s items; you will NOT get another RR. The best way to “roll” is to use your Kellogg’s RR to complete a different RR deal. You can then use the RRs from the 2nd deal, to purchase more Kellogg’s.
About Using Coupons
When purchasing a single item, Walgreens accepts one manufacturer coupon and applicable Walgreens coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer. The registers will not accept more manufacturer coupons/RR than items, so if want to use RR, but already have a manufacturer’s coupon for each item, you can add a small “filler” item for each RR. Use the cheapest items you can find (single pencils are good).
The coupon amount must be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied. (For example, a $2.00 coupon for a $1.99 item will be reduced to a $1.99 coupon value).
When purchasing multiple items, Walgreens accepts multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock and management limits.
BOGO FREE Coupons
When items are featured in a BOGO FREE promotion, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the items being purchased. Sales tax must be paid for any BOGO Free coupon offers, if required by applicable state laws.
Walgreens computers are programmed not to accept coupons for an item if the coupon is over the price of the item. In order to reduce problems at the checkout present your items in the following order:
1. Scan merchandise
2. Total Purchase Coupons
3. Register Rewards
4. BOGO FREE Manufacturer Coupons
5. Regular Manufacturer Coupons
6. Walgreens Store Coupons
This order is the opposite of other stores but there are good reasons for it. One, because Register Rewards are really manufacturer coupons the register will reject them if you have already used a coupon from that manufacturer. So if you have a higher valued register reward, it’s better to use a higher valued reward as opposed to a smaller value printed/paper manufacturer coupon. Secondly, your cashier will usually want to scan the Walgreens store coupons first but keep them tucked away until the end because the Walgreens store coupons alter the price of the item rather than actually taking money off so you want the register to think the item is full price when you use your manufacturer coupon. Cashier will sometimes keep the store coupon next to the register so keep an eye out.
This is just a guideline and so if a store coupon gets scanned first it won’t be the end of the world.
Additional info
Walgreens puts out at one coupon booklet per month. It can be found at the beginning of each month near the front door where you pick up the weekly ad. The coupons contained within are called Instant Value Coupons (IVC). They also put out a few extra coupon booklets throughout the year. Many of these you have to request at the Pharmacy.
Keep in mind that you can stack Walgreens coupons with Walgreens coupons as long as they have different bar codes. Check out this post to prove it.
